UU. a la fruta chilena en marzo de 1989, tras un supuesto hallazgo de cianuro en uvas importadas desde Chile, lo que generó pérdidas económicas superiores a 246 millones de dólares. Chile argumenta que la decisión fue negligente por parte de la Food and Drug Administration (FDA), pues las pruebas que sustentaron el embargo fueron defectuosas y contradictorias.
