La Comisión Chilena de Derechos Humanos fue fundada en 1978 por Jaime Castillo Velasco, destacado intelectual y hombre de leyes, que presidió la Comisión hasta el año 2003, y otros abogados, artistas, sindicalistas y personalidades chilenas que decidieron reunirse para enfrentar y denunciar los abusos y violaciones a los derechos humanos que se estaban cometiendo en Chile.
