Biographical history
Político, abogado y jurista. Fundador del Partido Demócrata Cristiano, fue presidente del Senado de 1971 a 1972 y presidente de la República durante el período comprendido entre 1990 y 1994. Aylwin fue el primer presidente democráticamente elegido tras el Golpe de Estado en Chile de 1973, en el que fue derrocado Salvador Allende y se instauró el Régimen Militar encabezado por Augusto Pinochet Ugarte. Así, el mandato de Aylwin dio inicio al periodo conocido como la Transición a la democracia y el primero de los cuatro gobiernos consecutivos de la Concertación de Partidos por la Democracia.
