Biographical history
Nació en 1883 gracias a la iniciativa del diputado por Petorca, don Pedro Montt, posteriormente Presidente de Chile entre 1906 y 1910. Fue llamada Biblioteca del Congreso por primera vez en la Sesión 1ª Extraordinaria del Senado, del 14 de noviembre de aquel año, según consta en las Actas. La Biblioteca se instaló en las salas del segundo piso del edificio del Congreso Nacional en Santiago, inaugurado en 1876 y sede del Poder Legislativo hasta 1973.
